Brennand Energia began operations in the early 2000s, with the construction of small hydropower plants (SHPs) on the River Jauru, in Mato Grosso State. Since then, the Company has been developing its own efficient expertise in building this type of plant.

In 2008, Brennand Energia started the development of wind power projects and, already in 2010, won the second Alternative Sources Auction held in Brazil. The first wind farms commenced operation in 2013.

Today Brennand Energia has an operational complex of ten SHPs in several regions of Brazil and ten wind farms in Bahia State, with a total installed capacity of 527 MW generating clean energy for the development of our country.

These efficient initiatives combine energy production with greater growth opportunities for all, as preserving the planet also means taking care of our energy.

  • ENVIRONMENTAL PRESERVATION INITIATIVES – HYDROPOWER PLANTS

    Carrying out programs to restore degraded areas: Brennand Energia is investing strongly in implementing the Degraded Areas Recovery Program (PRAD), in which areas surrounding the power plants have been fenced off and received a total of 500,000 saplings of native species, contributing effectively to the recovery of the environment.

  • SOCIAL AND CULTURAL DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES – HYDROPOWER PLANTS

    Brennand Energia supports ecological initiatives, such as donations of native saplings, tours of Company areas, donations of fry to riverside fishing communities, donations of segregated solid waste bins to town councils, donations of funds to build parks, release of animals into Company green areas and promoting harmonious coexistence with the recreational activities of the local population. Furthermore, the Company runs permanent environmental programs, such as the Environmental Education Program, which aims to promote environmental education initiatives among the residents of areas adjacent to the enterprise, with a view to increasing the awareness and protection of ecosystems.

  • SOCIO-ECONOMIC INITIATIVES

    Brennand Energia provides socioeconomic support in conjunction with civil society organizations of the municipalities in which we operate, by giving financial support to improve infrastructure for small farmers.

  • SOCIO-ECONOMIC, CULTURAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL INITIATIVES

    In the case of the Brennand Energia wind farms located in the same municipality of Sento Sé/BA, the Company has developed, in conjunction with BNDES, the financing body of the first eight wind farms, the Winds of Citizenship project. Its main objectives are to contribute to the autonomy and organization of the population of the communities of Piçarrão and São Pedro. The structuring initiatives carried out were defined in conjunction with community representatives, with a view to improving quality of life, reinforcing society and strengthening community bonds.
