History

Harnessing energy for development.

The Brennand Group started its business activities more than 80 years ago producing sugar and alcohol. In the 1950s, the Group began diversifying and expanding its operations and, by the 1990s, its business units included ceramics, glass and cement with plants in the states of Goiás, Paraíba and Alagoas.

The Brennand Energia Group was founded in the year 2000, having started its operations with the construction of the Antônio Brennand, Indiavaí and Ombreiras Small Hydroelectric Plants (SHPs). The Group has enhanced its management structure and developed unique expertise in constructing efficient and environmentally sustainable hydroelectric plants.

Brennand Energia provides energy to the regulated market and has a strong presence in the free market, having become Brazil’s largest power supplier to potentially free clients. With the aim of enhancing customer service quality, the Group decided to set up its commercial division in the city of São Paulo, where it provides services to clients and other players in all sectors of the Brazilian power industry.

Brennand Energia has thirteen hydroelectric plants in operation (totaling 288 MW), one in construction (21 MW) and three being started (49 MW), which will bring total capacity to 358 MW by the end of 2012, generating more than 2.2 million megawatt-hours per year.

Additionally, Brennand Energia has been developing new projects, including hydroelectric plants and wind farms, which will add more than 500 MW to its total power generation capacity.

With a long-term view and a profit reinvestment strategy, the Group has set the goal of reaching 600 MW of power generation capacity by the year 2015.

Increasing capacity, reducing costs.

By choosing to build Small Hydroelectric Plants, Brennand Energia is able to generate energy with low environmental impact, as SHPs are not only less polluting but also require smaller reservoirs.

Another advantage of SHPs is that they reduce the costs and risks involved in transmission, given that the energy is distributed locally.

Visão

gerar Emprego, gerar Energia e gerar Desenvolvimento

It is with this objective that the Brennand Energy will work every day, all year. Developing solutions for efficient generation of electricity.

Because invest in the power of nature is our great potential. Let us not forget to preserve the environment and develop our country.
